Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton, SC, was the first native born citizen of the United States to be canonized by the Roman Catholic Church. She died of tuberculosis on January 4, 1821 in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
St. Elizabeth was born in New York City on August 28, 1774.
She married a businessman named William Magee Seton at the age of 19.
Elizabeth loss her mother at the age of 3. Her baby sister died 4 years later.
Her husband's business went bankrupt and her family moved in with her father. Shortly she would experience another death in the family, her father.
Elizabeth lost her husband at the age of 29 in Italy. She was left penniless with 5 children, 2 of whom died at a young age.
She became a catholic and had a devotion to out Blessed Mother. Because of this she was rejected by some family and friends as she were raised as a devout Episcolapian.
She opened a school in Baltimore to support her children.
Her sister also became a Catholic and they started the first Sisters of Charity community in Emmittsburg, Maryland in 1809. This was the first congregation of religious sisters founded in the United States.
The Sisters of Charity established the first free Catholic school in America, the congregation focused on education, children and the poor.
Mother Seton, as she was called back then built and established the first Catholic orphanage in the country, Saint Joseph's Asylum in Philadelphia.
She was canonized byt Pope Paul VI on September 14, 1975.

While serving on the Warren Commission, he secretly gave some information on JFK's assasination to the FBI.
He was twice targeted for assasination both in California and both by women.
